This morning George was trying to coax me into letting her open a mini mega block set that features Kai-Lan from a show she's only seen at a friends house. She told me that Kai - Lan speaks China, and that the state animal for China is the dragon. This was all conveyed in very knowing tones while stroking the box she so badly wants to open. It was so funny!
I told her that actually the one Caillou that talks about the dragon is actually referring to the year of the dragon and asked if she wanted to know what year 2010 was going to be. She liked that idea so we looked it up. It will be the year of the Tiger.
Then she wanted to know what her year was ... oddly enough George was born in the year of the Green Monkey - no lie. Jr. was born in the year of the Golden Snake. Fred is a Golden Dragon, she liked that a lot. I'm a horse and ElCid is a Tiger (because the new year starts in Feb not Jan).
This was one of the many websites that popped up to explain the Chinese astrological signs and while I don't put stock in astrology they did seem to get a few character traits right for each of us.
We have a family coming over tonight to help us ring in the New Year. We'll be having mini burgers, pigs in blankets, chicken salad cream puffs, mini chocolate and vanilla pudding cream puffs, brownies, cookies and Christmas clearance candy & treats.

our family is very much into our chinese year. we all know them and know their traits. everyone fits their trait to a T. odd.
what are we doing to ring in the new year? NOTHING. hopefully putting 4 of the 5 to bed and letting the oldest stay up if he can make it. hell, i dunno if I can make it. we'll see.
We are spending the new year with friends and we will be stuffing ourselves with stuffed mushrooms, chips and ranch dip, chips and salsa, chipa and a hot bacon and cheese dip, little smokies, macaroni salad, rice crispy treats,cookies, and fudge. Although I think I like your menu better.
I'm going to a big activity at the BSU student union building cuz I heard there is a bowling alley and it will be open....
