When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth

We bought our current computer when George was very tiny. I didn't have an iPod, a digital camera or a beautiful 22" flat screen monitor to watch TV and movies on the internet with.

Now I have all those things and my "garage" is nearly full (I don't think I'm dumb when it comes to computers but I'm not interested enough to figure it all out. ElCid once described to me that the memory is like a garage and the processor is like a car. You can have a big garage and a slow or fast car or a small garage and a fast or slow car, I know you all already know this.) and my "car" is becoming vintage. It's a great computer that hasn't ever given me any serious grief but it's just not keeping up with all those things I expect it to do.

I discovered this past weekend my iPod has as much memory as my computer, no really. I bought some stuff from iTunes last week and I'm having to download it over night because it takes so long. Sandra let me know there are some very economical ways to replace my sweet little computer and now I need to save up, again, to get one of those.

My major issue with switching computers is one I know many people have, I don't want to switch all my stuff! I'm not faced with that challenge quite yet but it will come and when it does ... *sigh* I'll complain about that road once I get to it.

Anyway, do any of you know a great place online or in Vegas to get a sweet deal on a new computer with a big garage AND a fast car, cause you all know how I like to drive.

After the original fiasco, my Dell has been good. And was a good price at the time. And at least the customer support was there to eventually fix the original thing by sending me a whole new, better computer. And if I ever had another problem, I'd be more careful in what I told them.

Well, I'm not the person to ask since I have made the switch from PC to Mac. LOVE my Mac. Will never go back to PC again. Macs are so easy! And if all you're really doing is movies, pictures and music, a mac is the way to go.

As for good prices, I know newegg.com or buy.com have good prices for computers. Buy.com has weekly specials and I've seen computers on there for around 600.

Just as an FYI if you follow the advice of your misguided "friends" and switch to a Mac you will probably be disowned by many family members who are smart enough to work a PC. Not to be overly snotty or anything but just to let you know even though the hotter guy in the commercial is for Macs doesn't mean they are better... And yes I realize the idea of being disowned may be an incentive some days.

Little did you know that you would stir up ye olde Mac vs. PC issue. (Apple went out of business 'like a decade ago,' just ask my old high school students at Lehi HS who made this claim just months before the Ipod come out.) I love my home PC Dell AND my MacBook at work. (I will admit that the craptastic printer the school bought for my room doesn't even talk to a Mac, so I have been without a printer all stinking year...and the school IT guy doesn't like to help teachers with Macs...but I like having a laptop so I can do work at home instead of living in my classroom.) My PC is essential for FFXI - Werty bought me a new computer a couple years back for Christmas with a fast processor and an excellent graphics card, and I love it. Get a computer based on your needs. And don't buy the first generation of a new product, second generation usually has the bugs worked out.

we got mine at ibuypower.com Buh researched several sites he favors and got me the most for my money... no tech support when he does your computer though! SK has a Mac at home and a PC at work, I have used both and the Mac is mainly a pain because I have NO training for or experience with it. Of course I am still upset that they did away with file manager after Windows 3.0(?) I loved and understood file manager. SIGH xoxoxox

I would go online to get the best deals. Going in store is usually a rip off. If you must, then go to Frys. Get the faster computer (i.e. processor speed) that you can afford. You can always go back and add a bigger harddrive (size of disk space) or more RAM (the amount of memory available), but you cannot change the processor size.

Also, get a desktop. They are less expensive for speed and size than a laptop. Call me if you want specifics. Good luck!

Why don't you just get an external hard drive to save all your mega memory stuff to. have all my thousands of photos on it and so my main hard drive has plenty of room for the other stuff. You can get a terabyte hard drive for just over $100 at costco or amazon. Guaranteed that should hold you over for quite a while.

I know nothing about anything that has been said here. I don't even understand half of it. That being said, I LOVE my Toshiba laptop. It works for me; however, I know that I don't ask my computer to do much except save my essays for future use.

I will bring over my ginormous external hard drive and help you transfer everything to your new computer. It's really easy for the most part.

Frys.com - but then, you know that.
