Jeopardy
We left our house yesterday right on time at 4pm, made our way over to the convention center, had some problems finding the parking (it wasn't quite where they said it should be), finally did, got to the waiting area, went through security and proceeded to wait, and wait, and wait, and wait, while trying not to go insane while a 5 minute loop of clips was played continually.
Our tickets said the doors opened at 6:10 and closed at 6:45. At 6:10 they took the contestants guests away but never came back for the rest of us, we were starting to get a little antsy and then finally at 6:35 they came back and we finally were going inside. There was a lady counting people as they went by I was #46. As we filed into the building it suddenly became apparent why there had been such a wait. Nearly the WHOLE audience was all ready full of CES people. They had "real" tickets so they had been let in first. As I quickly scanned the vacant chairs it occurred to me there wasn't enough room for all the people they counted off, forget the hundreds still waiting in the tents and the cold parking lot! (The ticket did say it was first come first served and you weren't guaranteed a seat)
As I kept my fingers crossed and kept thinking please find a seat for ME!!! they were finding seats for the people just ahead of us. Who lucky them got to sit on the FRONT ROW!!! Had I been there by myself I too could have been on the front row but I couldn't leave ElCid so we sat in the very last row in the way super back but we got in and so did the 3 people behind me. Everybody else had to keep waiting!
Apparently we were "supposed" to see 2 shows be taped but since there were so many people still waiting they decided to switch the audience after just one show. I was so fine with that if I had been one of the waiting people I wouldn't have been happy to hear someone else saw 2 shows and I saw none!
Johnny Gilbert came out and gave us the little run down of what was going to happen, how we needed to behave, what they expected of us and then suddenly it was going! It was totally surreal, there were the people, then there was Alex Trebek and then the show was happening. Even though it was taped in real time leaving a space for commercial, re taping clues he read wrong (3), giving the contestants a drink, letting make up fix things, etc it flew by so fast!
It was a Tournament of Champions episode and I recognised all 3 players. 2 guys I had liked watching play and a lady who bugged me then and bugged me last night. I don't know why she just did.
During commercials Alex let people ask questions and some of them were seriously a waste of time. Like "how many years has Jeopardy been on and how long have you hosted?" Alex was very patient and said the show had been going 25 years and he'd been the host all 25 years. My answer would have been hello stupid do you not really watch the show and were your eyes screwed shut as you walked in because EVERYTHING is labeled 25th Anniversary!!! Then there were the people who asked about his personal life. Seriously??? If some stranger asked you those questions you wouldn't be happy to answer either, he might be a celebrity but he's still a person! Another asked how do you get on the show. Once again do you not watch this show because they talk all the time about the test. A few had sensible questions but being up and back so far we really didn't hear much more than the answers which didn't always make sense. My question would have been how do you keep a straight face when people give a totally wrong answer?
The contestant I liked won and it was an awesome thing to go do for free, basically. The babysitter bathed the kids and even though we were home way early it was so worth it!

Bro. Executive Secretary from church has been calling to get a hold of me to say the prayer in Sacrament meeting for weeks now and he was finally successful yesterday, I was assigned the closing prayer.
Today as the meeting closed and we were singing the closing hymn I wasn't paying attention I was fighting with my kids trying to get them to pick up their drawing stuff and George was freaking out about her stickers as the song came to a close I was still trying to get her to calm down because someone was about to start praying! As I glanced at the pulpit it suddenly struck me, when I met Bro 1st counselor's gaze, that I was supposed to be praying! As I was on my way to my feet another lady was on her way up the aisle to give the prayer, I found out later she thought her DIL was supposed to do it. Of course once the meeting was over I apologized to the guys in charge and said next time I would try to not be fighting with my kids and remember! They were nice about it but everyone else had to tease me about it. I could have died on the spot.

Really really cool! I'm so glad that you had a great time and can now check that off your life long to do list.
Sorry about the prayer thing, I've done it before too but it was when I was hugely pregnant and so everyone had to watch me lumber up to the front and listen to me pray out of breath.
See all the ways you are nicer than me? I may have ditched my date for a front-row seat!
I know it is mean, but I laughed out loud at your prayer story!
I am, unfortunately, with Flo on the ditching deal... would have told myself he would understand.
I have only done the waiting thing in Relief Society...probably why I have only been asked to end the Sacrament meeting once in 54 years!
xoxo
I'm glad you got in for the first show so you didn't have to wait outside for longer. Just curious, did you know a lot of the answers?
