"It says your not old enough to buy this"

Today I was at Target getting Airborne so my kids can avoid the cold I'm NOT catching and Kafra can come to Jr.'s party. I also grabbed lip gloss for the party and NyQuil/DayQuil (to combat the cold I'm NOT having). We made it up to the check out the girl was scanning all of my stuff and then she asked for my ID for the medicine. I've seen the news peices about kids drinking it to get a buzz so I wasn't surprised. The two guys behind me were surprised, I told them the reason and one guy was all "I know adults who buy it to drink it" and the other said "Nice" She took it and tried to scan the back but it didn't work. Then she typed in the number on the front and hit enter, frowned at the screen, turned to me and said "It says your not old enough to buy this." I gave her a are you freaking KIDDING ME right now look and replied "I'm about to be 30 in a week and I was 21 when I got that license, how old do you have to be?!?!?!?!" Her supervisor came over at this point and told me they would have to make the meds a seperate transaction because it was all messed up blah, blah, blah. Okay, whatever.

It was the first time in a long time anyone told me I was to young to buy something!

Sometimes my students turn in papers with words that make no sense in them. Why? Because the word was misspelled and they just chose whatever was the first word on the spell check list. Why do people assume the computer is smarter than them? "There must be a problem, I will get a manager" or "Let me run that through separately after this transaction, there is an error" but "The computer says you're too young"...and those children that keep calling you mom are what, actors!?!

But on a more serious note - I have a student who is suspended right now for being caught using household chemicals to get high. Very sad...and you know, some people don't have enough brain cells to spare...so why do they do it?
