The Only Alien on the Planet

I do know where this book "came" from, Karen King. (Karen Elizabeth King which will make sense to those of you in the know) Karen was always reading the most random books. She worked at the library. This is one I snagged from her and she was forced to let me read before I would give it back. :)

This is a story about a girl who moves across the country has no friends and meets a boy who is strange, beautiful and doesn't speak. It totally reminds me of Edward and Bella in some ways. He isn't a vampire, he was psychologically abused by his older brother for many years as a young child. I really connected with this book in several ways, moving, no friends, psycho older brothers... but more overcoming challenges by facing them head on with people you love, then moving on with your life in the way you want it to go by letting go of the hate and the poison.

Thanks Karen!

I remember that one! I didn't realize it was about a psycho older brother... I think when I read things at the same time as you I missed a lot of stuff. Like when I heard about people trying to ban Deenie and I had read it in elementary school, I was like "whaa?? is that what happened?"

Try the book "Unwind." Parents get to choose whether or not to keep their children once the child reaches 18. I haven't actually read it, but I have heard that it makes you think. Every month our district literacy guru has a few books to recommend.

I re-read All Quiet on the Western Front - I was amazed how much of the book I remembered! My students really like it!
