I'm going to write about one of my favorite books each day of November.
The one that "started it all" I would have to say is The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. (this is the same cover as my book I just remember it being more yellow...)
It was given to me by my 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Hadley. I think I still have that copy, in one of my storage boxes. Why did it start something? Because it took me far away from Ogden, I could see the places she wrote about, I felt for the characters and it made me think outside my own box.
It was the first chapter book I remember reading all the way through. I also remember feeling very grown up when I finished it and then I was very interested in other "big" books.

Yay! I love books read for pleasure. I would have to say that Tuck Everlasting is the one that started it all for me.
I don't remember NOT reading... and my first memories are of Dick and Jane and Spot and Puff. My first series was Sue Barton, in 3rd grade before we moved to Turkey. Student Nurse, County Nurse, etc... way beyond my understanding. Everything by Alcott and Wilder were inhaled by 5th grade. Kept reality at bay.
