JoAnn's fabric policy

So through no fault of mine or the director's the fabric on this coat just didn't work out. It's a vinyl but it doesn't flow the way other vinyls we have worked with do. It actually isn't this cheesy looking in real life. And the gold trim is for something else...
Anyhow I bought 13 yards of the stuff and only used 5.5 and I figured there was enough on the bolt that I could return it. I took the whole thing back to JoAnn's told my favorite customer service girl I needed to make the return the director didn't like it. She was cool with that and sent me back to the cutting table. There was a line so I took a number perused for the turquoise fabric I needed and finally my number was up. I lugged the big ole thing over to the guy told him it was a return and he took it to measure it. He did, came back and asked for my receipt. As he looked it over I pointed out the original purchase and he was SO rude and snotty with a "Well you can't return it then, you bought 10 yards this is only 7.5, you can't cut off a hunk and then bring the rest back" and as he said it it did make sense. But it wasn't like I was trying to return a 1/2 yard when I bought 2 to begin with!! I was all "Really? Even this much??" As my heart sunk with the thought of the cost. And he continued on in his totally rude manner "Yes really, you can take it up with a manager if you like" And I came back with "thanks, I will" I still had to get my turquoise cut and he asked how much and I needed to match it to some fabric I brought with me so I carefully lined up the edges, as he drummed his fingers on the counter, and I laid it out nicely to see the amount, as he drummed his fingers on the counter and then I told him 1.5. He sighs and I slowly clear my fabric off my side so he has room to cut the other stuff on the other side. As he unrolls and starts to get ready to cut I notice a big splotch of something dark colored on the fabric and I ask if it will come off and in his snotty irritated voice he's all I don't know, let's see if it's on the other side and I come back with well I don't want it if it's on either side. He heaves another huge sigh as he cuts off that piece of fabric and unrolls enough to get the amount again. I finally got my fabric and my big huge roll of vinyl and I was so tempted to say you know I know it's late at night but I spend thousands of dollars at this store every year (like 4,000 no joke) and I'm sure Shanti (the head manager) wouldn't be happy if I stopped. But I didn't cause it wasn't going to solve his crappy attitude. I lugged the vinyl back to the front, bought my other fabric and then my favorite customer service girl reappeared. I asked who the manager on duty was and she told me then asked why and I explained my problem and that I didn't realize the policy and she smiles her super nice smile and says "Let me make that return for you". I could have hugged the girl!! So I returned the vinyl, got my $48.44 back, thanked her 5 times and let her know the little man at the cutting table needed an attitude change.

So what is the moral of the story?
It pays to make friends at stores where you shop every other day, if not every day.

First,I would still complain to the manger; that guy is totally rude!

Second-if you returned it, how are you supposed to make me some cool vinyl pants!

Good making friends in 'high places' ! ! ! Even better that you remained as calm as you did, good example for your aging female parent!
