Las Vegas is located in the Mojave desert.
A desert doesn't get much rain. In fact the yearly average rainfall for Las Vegas is 4 inches. When it rains in the desert people suddenly can't drive, leave the house, or walk around outside. It has been overcast and rainy since Monday and I've been loving it! I got two calls on Monday night before the PTSO meeting asking if it was still happening or if it had been canceled due to rain...I was seriously mystified why I'd cancel a meeting for this small amount of rain, maybe for a torrential downpour but not for .25 inches. (The entire board braved the drizzle and came to the meeting)
When it rains in the desert, in the "middle" (how do they know it's the middle?) of a drought, and all I hear around me are people whining and complaining about the rain I feel like shaking them! It will only last a week. It will be gone by Saturday, Cowboy Up and STOP COMPLAINING! We NEED this rain. Our plants NEED this rain. This rain won't directly help Lake Mead which is unfortunate but we NEED this rain. See the white stripes in the picture below?? That all used to be covered by water, that's a lot of water we don't have waiting to be used anymore. We have Fasted as a State for rain. It has been a long while but this is those prayers being answered. If we complain about it now what are we showing Heavenly Father? That we don't really want what we ask for?

I know there has been some flooding but as far as I know we have nothing on California which is about to wash away. I've heard reports that even Disneyland has had to close for several hours over the last week. (I do know of some minor flooding of intersections and a few homes and I have a friend with a roof leak so the weather has caused some inconvenience and damage I won't say it hasn't.) I'm sorry that you're not used to weather but if we all want to continue to live in the desert (which honestly I don't) we will need more rain or we will all die of dehydration, well not me I'll move first.

Is it harder or easier to move when/if one is dehydrated? Loading a moving van in the rain STINKS, THAT I have plenty of personal experience with!!! (AnWanna left for WA this morning)
There has been flooding in Arizona, nice radio guy didn't say where..., and snow in Flagstaff causing major roads to close. I would not wish snow on you but I am Sure the younger people would LOVE it ;-}

They wanted to cancel the meeting? LOL! Some people just don't understand how cheerful and cleansing rain is. And then some of us do. I like it when it rains in the desert because my students are more calm.
Yeah, I had to tell a few people here that yes, whine, whine, we have rain and it is REALLY still January.
Uh yeah, I know the rain helps and all..but, it is like squishy and wet and when I go into a store my shoes are slippery on the linoleum and my hair gets frizzy and my car window wipers are squeaky because there is not enough rain for them to not squeak and my kids track mud into the house and I don't get my daily dose of Vitamin D!
I'll move to there and be one of the crazies that doesn't deal with the rain. We get enough here for my tastes!
don't forget us over here on the east coast. we're about to wash away too. RAIN EVERY DAY. torrential rain. like closing church rain. which i think is stupid but i don't argue!! hah
