A nice big, fat, round number

No not my weight... I don't discuss that here

The rising amount I've shelled out on my car. Apparently $700 wasn't the number Bunso was headed for. She was feeling neglected after all the fun with the window, brakes and battery so she decided last week to request a new water pump by repeatedly dumping radiator fluid all over my garage floor.

The plan was to let her hobble along until ElCid and his friend to get her fixed tonight but then his friend had to go out of town until tomorrow night and with school starting next week the PTSO President kind of needs a car! So we bit the bullet and took it to a place the friend recommended.

3 hours and just over $350 later she runs, without screaming at me that she's going to explode.

But wait! There's more! The tensioner and idler need to be replaced (pulleys for the serpentine belt, $340) and oh yeah that oil leak is still staining the garage floor one drip at a time (no estimate on that one). *sigh* ElCid is pretty sure he doesn't want a new car with a car payment and I love Bunso but man alive! She has managed to eat all the money I earned on the show this summer which was slated to send us to D!isneyl@nd for Christmas. Now I'm not sure what the plan is besides save more money to fix more stuff on the car.

Man...I hate cars. They cost too much!

As Bunzo's advocate, divided by _____ years of faithful service and _____ miles of dedicated transportation the thousands spent in the last 12 months are more reasonable than one might believe. As a car owner and former bankruptcy secretary... this is why one needs to have an amount set aside each month labeled "Bunzo" or "Pugsie" because these moments suck and bite one BigTime in the budget!
Moga has her own recommendation that she will post soon, I wholeheartedly support it ;-}
(I was on the phone with her when I opened your blog and I read it to her...)

WE completely feel your pain! Our check engine light came on while we were driving home from Utah. We are still trying to find out what it is going to cost us. So far we have paid $200 and they weren't able to fix it! I sure love cars! GOOD LUCK!

Cars are always a surprise! Hope Bunzo holds together. I always feel we're paying money down a rat hole but I sure love having something to drive. MOST OF THE TIME (see, I qualified that), repairs are cheaper than constant payments and a huge loan.

I disagree with everyone! I am positive the thousands I have spent buying Roy baby and for his upkeep are less than I would have poured into the van I inherited from Murphy.

Le-I agree with you on that.

We love Bunzo! She is a part of our family - you just don't euthanize your loved ones because they have a medical bill or two!

I agree with most everything said above...my advice, not that you're asking for any, is look at consumer reports and see if you make these repairs if they will probably hold for awhile or if you'll continue to have repairs...to put it in a way Peter can understand...Does she have bronchitis (a few medical bills) or does she have terminal cancer (drain the budget)! Good luck :)
